राक्षस्युवाच जरा नामास्मि भद्रं ते राक्षसी कामरूपिणी तव वेश्मनि राजेन्द्र पूजिता न्यवसं सुखम्

The rākṣasa said: "O lord of kings! O fortunate one! I am a rākṣasa woman named Jarā, who can assume any form at will. Worshipped by everyone, I live happily in your habitation.

राक्षस ने कहा: "हे राजाओं के स्वामी! हे भाग्यशाली! मैं जरा नाम की एक राक्षस स्त्री हूं, जो इच्छानुसार कोई भी रूप धारण कर सकती है। सभी द्वारा पूजी जाने वाली, मैं आपके निवास में खुशी से रहती हूं।"

The king then performed all the necessary rites for the child. He commanded that a great festival should be held in Māgadha in honour of the rākṣasa.

The father was the equal of Prajāpati and bestowed a name on him. Since he had been united by Jarā, he came to be known as Jarāsandha.

After some time had passed, Caṇḍakauśika, the illustrious and great ascetic, once again came to Māgadha.

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The king showed him homage with water for washing the feet, gifts due to a guest and water to wash his mouth. Then he offered him his son and his kingdom.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! राजा ने उसे पैर धोने के लिए पानी, अतिथि के लिए उपहार और मुंह धोने के लिए पानी दिया। तब उसने उसे अपना पुत्र और अपना राज्य देने की पेशकश की।

"O king! Everything is known to me through my divine sight. O Indra among kings! Listen to what will happen to your son.

"हे राजा! मैं अपनी दिव्य दृष्टि से सब कुछ जान लेता हूं। हे राजाओं में इंद्र! सुनो तुम्हारे पुत्र का क्या होगा।"

अस्य वीर्यवतो वीर्यं नानुयास्यन्ति पार्थिवाः देवैरपि विसृष्टानि शस्त्राण्यस्य महीपते न रुजं जनयिष्यन्ति गिरेरिव नदीरयाः

No king will be able to equal this valorous one in valour. O lord of the earth! Like the currents of rivers make no impression on mountains, weapons hurled by the gods will cause him no pain.

वीरता में इस वीर की बराबरी कोई राजा न कर सकेगा। हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! जैसे नदियों की धाराएँ पहाड़ों पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं डालतीं, वैसे ही देवताओं द्वारा छोड़े गए हथियारों से उसे कोई पीड़ा नहीं होगी।

सर्वमूर्धाभिषिक्तानामेष मूर्ध्नि ज्वलिष्यति सर्वेषां निष्प्रभकरो ज्योतिषामिव भास्करः

He will blaze forth over the heads of all those who have been consecrated and rob their light the way the sun shines over the lights of stars.

जैसे नदियों और नालों के स्वामी को मानसून के दौरान नदी का पानी बढ़ जाता है, वैसे ही वह सभी राजाओं की संयुक्त समृद्धि को जब्त कर लेगा।

Like the earth, the abode of all crops, extensively supports good and evil, with immense strength, he will justly uphold the four vārṇa-s.

This Māgadha, immensely stronger than everything in all the worlds, will witness with his own eyes Rudra Mahādeva Hara, the destroyer of Tripurā.

यह मगध, जो सभी लोकों में सब से अत्यधिक शक्तिशाली है, अपनी आंखों से त्रिपुरा के संहारक रुद्र महादेव हारा को देखेगा।

With his relatives and kin, the ruler of Māgadha returned to his city and instated Jarāsandha. King Bṛhadratha became detached from worldly pleasures.
